For those keeping up with GyroVorbis’s YouTube series Adventures in Game Development should be familiar with Elysian Shadow.
Those who aren’t well here is a brief synopsis:
Elysian Shadows is an indie 2D RPG being developed for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, Ouya and Sega Dreamcast. We fuse aspects of 16-bit classical RPGs such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy, with a highly stylized, modern vision by using dynamic lighting, physics, and audio engines along with swapping between 2D and 3D perspectives. Our goal is to create a “next-gen” 2D RPG in terms of gameplay, graphics, and audio while still remaining true to the games that inspired us to become developers.
Gyro shared some interesting information regarding the project on Dreamcast’s House of Talent FaceBook Group:
My Team and I have been doing an all-out press campaign for Elysian Shadows, our “next-gen” 2D RPG for Sega Dreamcast and other platforms before our Kickstarter this summer… We’ve been covered by some pretty large gaming sites like Destructoid, IndieGamingMagazine, and NicheGamer. We have a brand new website at elysianshadows (dot) com, and we just released the latest chapter of our massively successful “Adventures in Game Development” reality game-development series on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K56mndHzpQc. I’m reaching out to you guys for help spreading the word of our project and Kickstarter… We have been developing a 2D/3D engine to help make this game a reality for years, and we are planning on releasing our Dreamcast tools and engine to a modding community for use in creating other high-quality Dreamcast games as a stretch goal for the Kickstarter… If any of you are affiliated with Dreamcast press magazines or sites, let me know, and we would love to give you some exclusive screenshots and content. Please help spread the word and help us release our dream game on the Dreamcast!
Looks like the long gestating project is nearing completion.
