While most gaming websites reported Dreamcast classics Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure would be avaialble for download on X-Box Live Arcade (XBLA) and Playstation Network (PSN) sometime this year. At E3, Sega West President Mike Hayes revealed that these 2 games are part of a much larger Dreamcast Digital Resurrection, “We hope to have somewhere between 18 to 24.”
The funny thing here is that Sega planned to do Digital Downloads with Dreamcast 9 Years ago around the time they announced their plans to release 1st Party Sega games on every system. Furthermore their are some Dreamcast games already released for digital download services such as Q Entertainment’s Dreamcast Classic “Rez” and BackBone Entertainment used the Dreamcast Version of “Super Street Fighter 2 X Online For Matching Services” for their version of Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix.
To Celebrate the formal resurrection of the system Sega distributed Dreamcast T-Shirts at E3 in exchange for sharing fond memories with the system.
While the Dreamcast did receive significant media coverage at E3, I think it would’ve been much more impactful if Sega did this last year for the 10th Anniversary, better late then never.
