A change from the usual Homebrew/Emulation news for the Dreamcast Scene, but when new commercial games are released for a console that was shamefully left to wilt as a commercial product it is a great moment. The game Border Down is one such game to reaffirm the viewpoint that the Dreamcast while not the most powerful console around is surely the greatest. Heres the news from Lik Sang about this game:
Consumer demand and relative ease of porting Border Down to Dreamcast from its native NAOMI-based arcade architecture were the factors that convinced developer G.rev to grace their title for Dreamcast and shooter fans. Applaud and commend them for this move folks, as Border Down will be one of the final DC titles ever to appear on the Dreamcast.
Border Down, having been only seen in Japanese arcades, is a horizontal shooter in the same vein as Metal Black and the Darius games. Its similarity in style to those games is familiar, as the staff at G.rev are composed of members who worked at Taito, Treasure, and Sega. Border Down’s visual flair even comes close to the gorgeous likeness of Treasure’s own Ikaruga, so shooter fans demanding slick eye-candy won’t be disappointed here. Music purists will be happy to know that the game’s soundtrack was composed and arranged by Yasuhisa Watanabe, who formerly worked at Taito’s infamous Zuntata sound team.
