The man who likes to be thanked for his time, crt0, has posted some new information about his Dreamcast port of Wolfenstein 3D:
1) As I’ve since found out (at first by example), the support for 320×240 screen resolution was severely fux0r3d in KOS-1.1.5. A fix for this? Initialized KOS startup with 640×480… everything ran at full-speed again after that, even faster than it did with libdream. HOWEVER… To get the graphics at full screen resolution requires one of the following fixes:
a) drawing 4x as many pixels with the SH-4… this will make the game as slow as or slower than the current libdream version. some speed hacks are in place to make this less painful, if I can’t get this to work rendering with the Tile Accelerator.
b) stretch it up with the Tile Accelerator… I have code to do this, but (probably due to my old version of GCC) it just doesn’t work… I see one colored block in the corner of my screen when the game is trying to draw to screen. dunno what to tell you about that…
2) I have sound code in place as well… it, like the TA code, just doesnt work … I’ve got all the time in the world (well, at least the next week and a half ) to track down the bugs though, so hopefully that will be working soon…
When I can get the rendering squared away, I will make another release. The next release after that will not come until I get sound working. Thank you for your support, and for my time…
Thanks to Hollywood Hasney for the news.
