Panopticanus Studios has been working on a NeoGeo emulator in secrecy for Dreamcast, they kept it hidden because they did not want stupid critisizm and other stupid things that many of you put on other authors causing them to not want to work on things. Here are some details on it:
-running 70-80 percent speed
-the sound is glitchy and unstable; can have tendency to slow down performance.
-no saving ability right now (perhaps in future -although most Neo Geo games are fighting and there is no point in saving anyway except for high scores!)
-unlike Neo Geo emulators on the pc which can read Neo Geo roms as ‘zip’ files, the roms must be unzipped and put inside folders on the cdr in order for Neo DC to work properly. Of course, unlike most conventional roms, Neo Geo roms are large (ie. anywhere up to approx. 30 megs), meaning that you will not be able to fit near as many Neo Geo roms on a blank cdr as you could with Snes or Genesis roms.
-since streaming is not possible, most of the DC’s resources are used up in loading the rom. This means that in order to play another game, you must turn off your Dreamcast and turn it on again.
-while caching the data from the rom, the DC will temporarily freeze from time to time (not sure why this is happening, but looking into it)
-occassionally, Neo DC will lock up for no apparent reason.
-Neo DC cannot load some of the larger roms (ie. King of Fighters ’98, Metal Slug X, etc.)
-full screen mode looks beautiful and almost exactly like the original Neo Geo. As mentioned previously however, it is only running between 70-80 percent speed.
-split-rom sets are currently supported, although they don’t all work correctly.
-disc-swapping support
-other known minor bugs at this time.
