Heliophobe has updated the Smeg homepage with some information on the progress of his excellent Sega Master System emulator:
“Ah, so what’s up with Smeg, you may be wondering? Not a whole lot, but I am working on a commonly requested feature.
This is a clip of me playing Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars, sound effects and all. If you’re familiar with FM sound on the SMS you’ll notice it’s really not ready for prime time:
- Drum tracks are missing
- Instrument tuning isn’t quite correct
- Playback is offkey
- ADSR envelopes aren’t quite right
Still, good progress for a weekend and a few hours here and there. I’m writing a new engine from scratch, and it should be fairly speedy, hopefully it won’t slow down Smeg any when it’s enabled.”
The Alex Kidd & The Lost Stars sound clip is available at Heliophobe’s site if you’d like to hear it.
